Date: Wednesday 4 November 2026
Venue: Michael Sterling auditorium, Brunel University of London
Time: 09:00–17:00

This one-day symposium brings together arts therapies students, alumni, researchers, practitioners, educators and interdisciplinary collaborators to explore how artistic and creative practice, therapeutic relationships and research remain meaningfully interconnected within contemporary arts therapies.

The event will also launch the Brunel Arts and Creative Health Community of Practice: connecting graduates, current students, researchers and practitioners beyond the university, supporting lifelong learning through mentoring, collaborative research and continuing professional dialogue.

  • Arts therapies alumni and current students
  • Practitioners and educators in arts therapies and creative health
  • Researchers and doctoral students with an interest in practice-based and arts-based research
  • Interdisciplinary collaborators working across arts, health and social care

The day opens with a panel discussion, Keeping it Real in Arts Therapies Research: Feeling, Evidence and What Actually Produces Change, chaired by Professor Dominik Havsteen-Franklin, Professor of Arts Psychotherapies & Creative Health, NHS Consultant in Arts Psychotherapies.

The programme continues with parallel research and practice presentations, experiential arts-based workshops, paired mentoring conversations between early-career and established researchers and practitioners, and a closing community conversation setting out next steps for the Community of Practice.
